Tips for practicing affirmations effectively
November 24th, 2008 | by Ethan Beh |How to use affirmations? Like many other things, there are certain ground rules which should be followed to ensure that your self affirmations are actually effective. Increase your chances of having effective affirmations by knowing how to use affirmations. Below are some guidelines to practicing affirmations effectively.
PRESENT TENSE Affirmations should be stated in the present tense. This adds to the effectiveness and impact of the affirmation. For example ‘Everyday in everyway I am getting healthier’. This affirmation states that this is happening in the present.
SHORT AND SPECIFIC It is a good idea to keep your affirmations short and to the point. This way it is easier to say, the power of the affirmation is concentrated and the sub-conscious mind picks up short sentences much easier than long wordy sentences.
REPETITION The more repetitions you make of the affirmation, the better it is. Every repetition adds to the impact, power, and compounds the energy of the affirmation. The more repetitions done, the more the mind will accept the affirmation.
EMOTIONS It is very important to do affirmations with emotions. When you show emotions it means that you really want it, that you care and most importantly that you believe in affirmation. Don’t do affirmations in a weak and inspired manner. Your subconscious mind will notice pick that up. It will know that you’re not serious about affirmations and that since you don’t believe it, your subconscious won’t make it happen.
USE STATEMENTS THAT ARE POSITIVE As much as you can, avoid using any negative statements or negative words when doing affirmations. Do not use words such as not, won’t etc. You should affirm for what you want, and not affirm against what you don’t want. So don’t say ‘I do not have low self esteem’ instead say ‘I have high self-esteem’.
PERSISTENCE Having persistence when doing affirmations is very important. When we do affirmations, we cannot expect to see results immediately. It needs some time to show it’s effect. Be diligent and persistent even if you do not see any results. Just because you cannot see it doesn’t mean that nothing is happening.
VISUALIZATION Visualizing as you are practicing affirmations. In your mind see yourself as already having obtained your goal. This can increase the impact of the affirmation because having visual, auditory and kinesthetic elements in the affirmation multiplies the energy and influence of the affirmation.
